There’s still a week to go before the EPL 2007-2008 season end but Liverpool’s merely ended a week ago after Bennayoun’s strike and the classy extra-time defeat in the CL. It’s the same old story again as Reds ended another season trophyless. But still, there’s not much disappointment and lots more positive to take if we looked back it.
Anfield had been set buzzing in the early season with the capture of Torres, the new transfer record for Reds which is previously held by the shame Lord Cisse, amplify buy the surprise addition in the shape of Babel who before that famously claimed that he would very much love to be a Gunners. The captured of Torres had bring the club to a new level, his silky running, plethora of pace, composed finish and excellent understanding with Abe G, brought him 30+ goals, a very good debut season indeed whereas Babel, with 11mil price tag burdening him proved nothing more than a supersub, yet.
Early season formed look very promising, Xabi showed a bit of his old-self until he got injured during the Arsenal game, and from then Reds form had been stuttering. Opponents alarmed of the good form shown by Reds early on and have decided to pack up their defense resulting in lots of draw, with the disability to open up opponents’ defense again prove to be the stumbling block on the Reds conquest to regain the league title which have eluded us for nearly 18years now.
Rafa got concerned, as well as passionate Reds fans, and he tried to find the best formation each game until he used 4-3-3 which looked promising as Reds tried to do a late surge to win the title, but to no avail. However, Reds games have been more entertaining to watch this season, owed to Rafa’s latest recruits and more settled tactic. If only we have a better full back on both sides and a more complete right forward to fill Kuyt position, the league title will look even more promising.
Reds had to settle for 4th place this season, and a semi-final place in the CL can’t be classified as a failure but in term of Reds standard it might be considered one. But it is worth noted that Reds’ point gained this season had eclipse last season’s, it showed that the club had progressed, but our rival had progressed better. Also, Liverpool had reached 100 goals well before Chelski and Arse-anal this season.
